Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you teach?
We welcome students as young as 3 years old through adulthood. The Suzuki method is designed to start early, but it's never too late to begin learning music.
Do parents need to attend lessons?
Yes, especially for younger students. Parent involvement is a cornerstone of the Suzuki method. You'll attend lessons, take notes, and guide daily home practice. No musical background is required.
Do I need to own an instrument?
Students will need access to an instrument for daily practice at home. We can help you choose an appropriate instrument for your child's age and size during your trial lesson.
What is the Suzuki method?
The Suzuki method, also called the "mother tongue" approach, teaches music the way children learn language: through listening, repetition, and encouragement. Students learn to play by ear before reading music, building a strong foundation of musicality and technique.
What lesson formats are available?
We offer in-studio lessons at our Cedar Mill location, home visits within a 10-minute drive (travel fee applies), and online lessons via Zoom for maximum flexibility.
How long are lessons?
Lesson length depends on the student's age and level. Young beginners typically start with 30-minute lessons, progressing to 45 or 60 minutes as they advance.
What happens during the free trial lesson?
The trial lesson is a relaxed 30-minute session where we get to know your child, assess their interest and readiness, demonstrate the Suzuki approach, and answer all your questions. There's absolutely no obligation.
